Bihar Assembly Rejects Bharat Ratna Proposal For Lalu Yadav

The Bihar Assembly on Wednesday rejected a proposal to recommend Lalu Prasad Yadav for the Bharat Ratna.

The rejection dealt a blow to the RJD, which has long demanded India’s highest civilian honor for its leader.

RJD MLA Mukesh Roshan proposed that the Bihar government recommend Lalu Yadav’s name to the Central government.

However, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary clarified that the state makes yearly recommendations but has no proposal for Lalu Yadav.

Chaudhary urged Roshan to withdraw the proposal, but he refused.

Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav then conducted a voice vote, and the Assembly rejected the proposal.

The decision left RJD members frustrated.

With the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections approaching, many see this demand as a political strategy.

Lalu Yadav remains influential despite his legal and health troubles. His party hopes to revive public support by pressing for this honor.

RJD leaders criticized the rejection.

“Lalu Yadav has championed social justice and empowered backward classes. He deserves the Bharat Ratna,” said Mukesh Roshan.

Outside the Assembly, RJD supporters protested. Many believe the rejection was politically motivated.

The debate over Lalu Yadav’s legacy continues.

While his supporters praise his contributions, his critics cite corruption cases against him.

Bihar’s political landscape remains deeply divided.

The Assembly’s decision signals fierce electoral battles in the coming months.

Lalu Yadav’s influence in Bihar cannot be ignored.

Whether this rejection affects voter sentiment will be seen in the 2025 elections.
