SC Panel Probes Justice Varma’s Residence Over Alleged Cash Recovery

The probe into cash recovery at Justice Yashwant Varma’s home intensified after a Supreme Court panel inspected the residence on Tuesday.

The investigation into the cash recovery at Justice Yashwant Varma’s residence has intensified, with an in-house committee led by Supreme Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna inspecting the house on Tuesday.

The committee, which includes Chief Justice Sheel Nagu of Punjab and Haryana High Court, GS Sandhawalia, Chief Justice, Himachal Pradesh High Court, and Justice Anu Sivaraman, arrived at 1 PM and left after 45 minutes.

The committee inspected the store room where a fire broke out on March 14 at 11 PM.

Sources indicate that investigators will first record the statement of the person who reported the fire.

The committee may also meet the Police Commissioner and Fire Department DG to gather more details.

Additionally, Justice Varma’s call records will be analyzed, and a forensic examination of burnt items is under consideration.

Justice Varma Denies Cash Allegations, Says Staff Found No Money Or Burnt Notes

Justice Varma has denied all allegations in his statement to the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court.

He claimed that his staff did not find any cash at the scene nor witness any burnt currency.

He further stated that his personal investigation found no evidence of cash removal.

Justice Varma expressed distress over the allegations, stating that his ten-year judicial career’s reputation has been tarnished.

Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner submitted pictures and videos of half-burnt cash to the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court.

The commissioner also reported that a security guard mentioned the debris was cleared from the storeroom on March 15.

The committee will now seek clarification from Justice Varma regarding the cash discovery as the probe continues.
