Alarming air quality
Delhi recorded a very poor quality of air with the average Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 256, as per the Central Pollution Control Board(CPCB). This record was based on readings from 34 out of 40 air quality monitoring stations across the city.

According to the data received Anand Vihar area recorded the worst air quality across the city with an AQI of 312, followed by Nehru Nagar with 309, Shadipur with 299, Bawana with 294, Jahangirpuri with 292 and Mundka recorded 287 AQI.
It should be noted that AQI reading between 201 and 300 falls under the ‘poor’ category, while 301- 400 falls under ‘very poor’ category, as per the CPCB. Poor air causes breathing discomfort to people who remain exposed to this air for a longer period of time. While very poor air causes respiratory illness.

CPCB, however, stated the reasons for the fall of air quality. Reduction of wind speed and overall meteorological conditions during this time cause the air quality to fall. Today the city recorded a minimum temperature of 15.8 degrees Celsius which is slightly below the average while the sky remained clear throughout the day as per the weather office.
Environment Minister Gopal Rai suggested the people to switch- off their vehicles while waiting at the traffic signals.
