In a significant move, Assam government has made it mandatory for it’s government employees to seek it’s approval before tying the knot for the second time. However, no such permission need to be taken while entering into marriage for the first time.

This decision signifies a major shift in the government’s approach to regulate the personal lives of its employees. The state government has also mentioned the consequences for any violation of this order. Those who dishonour this directive and go ahead with a second marriage without obtaining the necessary permit will be facing not only a huge financial penalty but also a departmental inquiry will be initiated against the offender.
This directive is not restricted to any particular place or region of the state but is applicable to the remotest corners of the state as well. Regions like Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Karbi Anglong, and Dima Hasao Autonomous Council areas too will cover this directive.

It is to be noted that people who reside particularly in these areas indulge in getting divorce or separation from their spouses and often inculcate a tendency of either live with another spouse or getting married for the second time and so on.
