The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will hold an emergency Board of Governors meeting on Monday, following the United States’ military strikes on Iran’s key nuclear facilities.
The move aims to address rising global concerns over nuclear safety and regional stability.
IAEA announces urgent session amid crisis
IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi announced the emergency session on Sunday via social media.
“In light of the urgent situation in Iran, I am convening an emergency meeting of the @IAEAorg Board of Governors for tomorrow,” Grossi posted on X.

Strikes target Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan
The US military targeted Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, three of Iran’s principal nuclear sites.
President Donald Trump reportedly authorised the strikes, which have sparked global concern and a wave of condemnation from Tehran.
Iran’s leadership warned of ‘grave consequences’ and labelled the action a violation of international law, while reiterating that its nuclear programme remains peaceful.
IAEA reports no radiation risk
Despite the strikes, the IAEA confirmed that no increase in radiation levels had been detected.
“Following attacks on three nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, the IAEA can confirm that no increase in off-site radiation levels has been reported as of this time,” the agency stated.
The initial assessment provided some reassurance amid growing fears of environmental damage. However, tensions remain high, with uncertainty looming over regional diplomacy and security.
Meeting to Focus on Infrastructure and Global Impact
The upcoming emergency session is expected to include briefings on the status of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and discussions on how the attack may affect the global nuclear non-proliferation framework.
Analysts believe the meeting could shape future international responses, both diplomatic and technical, regarding Iran’s nuclear activities.
Iran has remained defiant, vowing to continue what it calls its ‘national industry’, a reference to its nuclear programme.
The Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran denounced the US strikes and stressed that its activities are fully peaceful and under IAEA safeguards.
