Indian Army Exposes Fake Pakistan-Linked Claims Of Crackdown On ‘Cockroach Janta Party’

The Indian Army has refuted allegations circulating on a Pakistan-linked social media account that claimed the military had launched a crackdown on the ‘Cockroach Janta Party’.

The Army’s fact-check said the account had circulated an old photograph of law enforcement personnel during a student protest at Jamia Millia Islamia University in south Delhi to damage the reputation of the defence forces.

The account alleged that seven young people were injured and two died during an operation on the morning of October 23. It also falsely portrayed the Army as taking a stand against Generation Z, the Army clarified.

According to the Army, the original footage showed security personnel managing a hunger strike demanding the restoration of the students’ union at Jamia Millia Islamia on October 17. The incident resulted in no reported casualties.

The Army issued the clarification through its official social media channels, identifying the circulating claims as false.

Separately, Jamia Millia Islamia has announced the formation of a committee to draft the constitution of the Jamia Millia Islamia Students’ Union (JMISU), in accordance with Article 23(J) and (K) of the Jamia Millia Islamia Act, 1988.

An official from the university’s Chief Public Relations department said the committee would examine the circumstances surrounding the students’ union’s dissolution in 2006.

It would also consider relevant court rulings and the recommendations of the Lyngdoh Committee of 2007.

The university said its last students’ union dissolved in 2006, making a fresh review of the matter necessary.

Several developments have taken place over the past two decades, the university noted. The committee will therefore review the issue within the prevailing legal and institutional framework.
