Sensex, Nifty End Lower For Fourth Straight Session As Geopolitical Tensions Weigh

Sensex and Nifty extended their losing streak to four sessions on Friday as geopolitical tensions triggered broad-based selling, with mid- and small-cap stocks recording steeper losses.

Sensex and Nifty ended lower for the fourth consecutive session on Friday as rising geopolitical tensions dampened investor sentiment and weakened risk appetite.

The Sensex fell 125.56 points, or 0.17%, to close at 73,123.83. The Nifty shed 87.65 points, or 0.39%, to settle at 22,600.

Broader markets faced sharper selling pressure. The Nifty MidCap 100 declined 2.21%, while the Nifty SmallCap 100 dropped 2.94%.

Shriram Finance and JSW Steel emerged as the biggest Nifty laggards, with weakness in metal and financial stocks dragging the benchmark lower.

Metal, realty and public sector banking stocks led sectoral losses as investors reduced exposure to economically sensitive segments.

The Nifty IT index showed relative resilience, recording the smallest decline among sectoral indices.

Market experts identified 22,400–22,500 as a key support zone for the Nifty after its recovery from the intraday low. However, the close at 22,600 left the index vulnerable to further pressure.

Holding above 22,500 could trigger a rebound towards 22,800-22,900, analysts said. A break below this level could push the index towards 22,300 and 22,200. A sustained close above 22,900 would signal potential stabilisation.

Geopolitical concerns kept investors cautious throughout the session, overshadowing stock-specific developments.

Looking ahead, analysts said inflation trends and major central banks’ decisions on balancing price pressures with economic growth would influence market direction.

They expect earnings visibility and reasonable valuations to drive stock- and sector-specific opportunities.
