Depression In Bay Of Bengal Set To Intensify Into Cyclone By Wednesday

A low-pressure area over the east-central and adjoining southeastern Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 26, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday.

The system is expected to develop into a depression on October 24 and a deep depression on October 25. It may strengthen into a cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal by October 26 morning.

The system is likely to approach the North Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha coasts over the next two days.

Prakhar Jain, Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority, forecast widespread rain across the state.

He urged residents and farmers to take precautions and advised fishermen at sea to return to shore immediately.

A separate low-pressure system over Tamil Nadu and Kerala may bring isolated heavy showers to Rayalaseema on Friday.

Andhra Pradesh may receive light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and lightning on October 24 and 25. Rainfall is likely to spread across the state from October 26, with isolated areas facing heavy showers.

Coastal areas may experience gusty winds reaching 60–70 kmph, potentially worsening sea conditions.

The IMD traced the developing system to an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the southeastern and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal on Thursday.

Authorities urged coastal residents, farmers and fishermen to remain vigilant as the system intensifies and moves towards the eastern coast.
