A case was filed by the Mumbai Police against the social media influencer Uorfi Javed and four other people on Friday for making and disseminating a fake video of her being arrested.
The viral video shows a few women posing as police officers arresting Uorfi Javed from a cafe. When Uorfi asks them the reason behind doing so, the woman ‘cop’ says, “Itne chote chote kapde kaun pehenke ghumta hai (who roams around wearing such a short dress)?”
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Krishnakant Upadhyay of Mumbai stated that no one had been arrested following the viral video.
Later that day, a case was filed by the Oshiwara Police under sections 171, 419, 500, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Uorfi and other individuals in the video. These sections deal with defamation (500), personation (419), wearing apparel or carrying a token used by a public servant with fraudulent intent (171), and actions taken by multiple people to further a common goal (34).
Uorfi has encountered legal issues previously. She was the subject of a complaint lodged at the Andheri Police Station in December 2022 regarding alleged illegal and obscene acts in public areas. Advocate Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh filed the complaint, alleging that Javed had engaged in obscene acts on social media and in public places.
