Maharashtra Sees 32.18% Voter Turnout; Jharkhand Records 47.92% By 1 PM

Maharashtra saw a 32.18% voter turnout in its single-phase assembly elections, while Jharkhand recorded 47.92% by 1 PM on Wednesday.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Maharashtra witnessed a subdued voter turnout of 32.18% in its single-phase assembly elections, while Jharkhand recorded a slightly higher turnout of 47.92% during the second phase of its assembly polls as of 1 PM on Wednesday.

Maharashtra: Mixed Participation Across Districts

The highest turnout in Maharashtra was reported from the naxal-affected Gadchiroli district, where 50.89% of registered voters cast their ballots by early afternoon.

Mumbai city recorded the lowest turnout at 27.73%, reflecting voter apathy in the state’s financial capital.

Other key districts also showed varying levels of participation:

  • Mumbai Suburban: 30.43%
  • Pune: 29.03%
  • Nagpur: 31.65%
  • Thane: 28.35%
  • Kolhapur: 38.56%
  • Aurangabad: 33.89%
  • Ratnagiri: 38.52%
  • Gondiya: 40.46%

Smaller districts like Jalgaon (27.88%) and Nanded (28.15%) joined Mumbai in reporting some of the lowest turnouts, while mid-sized districts like Hingoli (35.97%) and Chandrapur (35.54%) fared better.

Jharkhand: Voter Enthusiasm In Rural Areas

In Jharkhand, the second phase of elections, covering 38 constituencies, saw more active voter participation.

Pakur district led the turnout at 53.83%, with Bokaro reporting the lowest turnout of 42.52%. Other significant figures included:

  • Deoghar: 49.83%
  • Dumka: 50.28%
  • Ranchi: 52.10%
  • Ramgarh: 51.26%

Bypoll Highlights Across States

Simultaneously, by-elections in various states reflected varied participation levels. Notable figures include:

  • Punjab: Gidderbaha (50.09%), Barnala (28.10%)
  • Uttar Pradesh: Kundarki (41.01%), Ghaziabad (20.92%)
  • Uttarakhand: Kedarnath (34.40%)
  • Kerala: Palakkad (40.16%)

Voting Across The Country

Polling began at 7 AM on Wednesday, covering 288 constituencies in Maharashtra and 38 seats in Jharkhand. Results for all the assembly seats, as well as the bypolls, will be declared on 23 November.
