Following a recent attempted arson at the diplomatic building by Khalistan supporters, scores of Indian Americans organized a peace demonstration in front of the Indian Consulate to express solidarity with India.
A video uploaded on Twitter by Khalistan supporters on July 2 depicted arson at the Indian Consulate in San Francisco. It was the second similar incident in as many months.
Many Indian Americans from San Francisco and surrounding areas came out in support of India, holding a peaceful rally in front of the Indian Consulate in San Francisco in response to the recent act of violence.
Protesters called it terrorism and asked that those responsible for the violence be held accountable.
Taranjit Singh Sandhu, India’s Ambassador to the United States, paid a visit to the Consulate here on Thursday and met with Indian diplomats and authorities.
India has asked its partners, including Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States, not to provide extremist Khalistani ideology a platform since it is not good for bilateral relations.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated in New Delhi earlier this month that the radical, extremist Khalistani ideology is not healthy for India or its partner countries such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
Pro-Khalistan demonstrators stormed and vandalized the Indian Consulate in San Francisco on March 19.
Protesters shouting pro-Khalistan slogans tore down improvised security barriers erected by local police and placed two so-called Khalistani flags within the Consulate grounds. Two consulate employees quickly removed the flags.
