Delhi recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 187 at 8 AM on Monday, placing the national capital in the ‘moderate’ category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
However, several monitoring stations continued to report elevated pollution levels, while white foam reappeared on the Yamuna River near Kalindi Kunj, raising fresh concerns over water pollution.
Data from monitoring stations showed considerable variations in air quality across the city. Burari recorded an AQI of 128, followed by Badarpur at 125, Nangloi at 150, JNU at 157 and Mandir Marg at 165.
Meanwhile, several areas reported readings in the poor category. Jahangirpuri recorded an AQI of 251, followed by R.K. Puram at 233, CRRI Mathura Road at 231, Punjabi Bagh at 229, Narela at 227, Mundka at 226 and Vivek Vihar at 240.
Uttam Nagar and Sirifort recorded AQI levels of 215 each, while Dwarka Sector 8 registered 207. Patparganj and Sonia Vihar reported readings of 202 each, while Rohini recorded 200.
Fine particulate matter, including PM2.5 and PM10, remains a major concern as pollution levels vary across the national capital.
To prevent further deterioration, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) invoked Stage 1 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across Delhi-NCR on October 21.
The measures include restrictions on coal and firewood use in tandoors at hotels, restaurants and open-air eateries. Diesel generator sets are also restricted, except for essential and emergency requirements.
White foam has reappeared on the Yamuna near Kalindi Kunj, highlighting persistent water pollution despite government rejuvenation efforts and infrastructure projects worth ₹9,000 crore.
