Shekhar Kapur

One of the first Indian filmmakers to have a full career in the West, Shekhar Kapur is known for making films that tell stories about other countries. He doesn’t think he changed anything about how Indian or Asian stories are told on a global stage, looking back.
Instead, he attributes the emergence of a sea of change among international audiences to SS Rajamouli and his film RRR. Shekhar also discusses his memories of working with Satish Kaushik in this week’s Big Interview.
Kapur thanks the late entertainer for dismissing Aamir Khan’s endeavours to be his right hand. Additionally, he recalls his bond with Shabana Azmi, a dear friend, and associate, whom he has reunited with in Kapur’s most recent release, “What’s Love Got To Do With It?” We begin the discussion with Paani, played by Sushant Singh Rajput, and the likelihood of seeing Mr. India 2.

Should the director make more Indian films?

“I attempted. I endured five or six years attempting to make criminals sovereign as well. I tried to make paani. In an effort to accomplish that, I spent five or six years in India. Paani was something I wanted to make with Indian actors. Even though Slumdog Millionaire made approximately $400 million worldwide, I’ve always felt that it wasn’t considered an Indian film. Paani was always going to be an Indian movie for me. Even though at one point I considered making it in Spanish, I returned to India to make it. Because we have the same issues in Mexico City, I had considered setting it there.

Shekhar Kapur to make Mr. India 2?

Right now, I want to make a movie in India. Everyone tells me, ‘Goodness, how about you make Mr. India 2?’ Additionally, I am aware that they are asking, “Can you make another film?” They are not really referring to Mr. India 2, so that cannot be taken seriously.
