Operation Sindhu: The Indian Embassy in Iran announced on Tuesday that it is winding up the evacuation operations launched during the Iran-Israel conflict. The decision follows a ceasefire between the two nations.
Taking to the social media platform, the Embassy confirmed the gradual closure of the evacuation process. However, it said the situation is still being closely monitored. The strategy will be revised if Indian nationals face any renewed threats.
“Announcement from Embassy of India, Tehran: Since there has been an announcement of ceasefire, the Embassy is gradually winding up the evacuation exercise initiated during the military conflict in Iran,” the Embassy posted on X.

The Embassy has also shut down the contact desk set up to register names for evacuation. The Government of India continues to watch the situation carefully and may reassess its plans if threats emerge again.
India launched Operation Sindhu last week to evacuate its citizens from Iran and Israel amid rising hostilities. In its advisory, the Embassy urged those intending to travel to Mashhad for evacuation to remain where they are and follow the news for updates.
For those already in Mashhad and staying in Embassy-arranged hotels, the mission asked them to move to Sadr Hotel on Tuesday. The Embassy plans to release rooms in other hotels.
It stated, “The embassy will retain the rooms in Sadr hotel for 2 more nights (until checkout time on 26 June). This will also allow citizens time to assure themselves that the security situation in Iran is indeed returning to normal.”

The Embassy has kept communication lines open for those who need help or have special requirements. Citizens may reach out via the Telegram channel or the earlier shared helplines for the next few days.
Over 3,100 evacuated under Operation Sindhu
On Tuesday alone, India evacuated more than 1,100 citizens from both Iran and Israel. This brought the total number of evacuees under Operation Sindhu to 3,170, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
From Israel, 594 Indians returned home. Over 400 were first moved to Jordan and Egypt via land routes and then airlifted using Indian Air Force C-17 aircraft. Another 161 Indians flew from Amman in a chartered flight.
From Iran, 573 Indians, three Sri Lankans and two Nepalese citizens were brought back in two chartered flights. With these, the total number of Indians rescued from Iran rose to 2,576.
The operation saw the evacuation of multiple groups through land and air routes.
On Tuesday, 161 Indians arrived from Amman, received by Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita. Another 165 Indians came from Jordan in a C-17 flight and were welcomed by Minister of State L Murugan. A separate group of 268 Indians was evacuated from Egypt’s Sharm-el-Sheikh to New Delhi.
Additionally, 292 Indians flew in from Mashhad at 3:30 am on Tuesday. Later, another batch of 281 Indians, three Sri Lankans and two Nepalese arrived from the same city at 3 pm.
“2576 Indian nationals have now been brought home from Iran as part of #OperationSindhu,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
The Nepalese ambassador thanked India for assisting its citizens. “Thank you Ministry of External Affairs and Embassy of India in Iran,” wrote Dr Shankar Sharma on social media.
Earlier, 290 Indians and one Sri Lankan were airlifted from Mashhad on Monday night. Hostilities between Israel and Iran had escalated after the US bombed three Iranian nuclear sites on Sunday.
