Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a key conspirator in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, will appear before the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Delhi today, marking a pivotal moment in India’s fight against cross-border terrorism.
Authorities extradited Rana from the United States on 10 April 2025 and placed him in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, where he is expected to remain until 6 June.
Rana, a Canadian national of Pakistani origin, played a crucial role in facilitating the planning and logistics of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, which killed 166 people and injured hundreds.
He allegedly used his immigration business in Chicago as a front to help Lashkar-e-Taiba operative David Coleman Headley conduct reconnaissance for the attacks.
The 26/11 attacks remain one of the deadliest terror strikes on Indian soil, targeting locations such as the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, and the Jewish centre at Nariman House.
Indian authorities have long pursued Rana’s involvement, maintaining diplomatic pressure for his extradition following his conviction in the United States on related charges.
