CM Omar Abdullah launched the Jammu & Kashmir Right to Information (RTI) Online Portal on Friday. This marks a significant step in the state’s efforts to increase transparency and accountability in governance.

The launch event was attended by several key figures, including Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary and Cabinet Ministers.

In his address, CM Abdullah congratulated the officers who developed the portal, stressing its transformative potential in simplifying the RTI application process. He highlighted that the new online platform would enable citizens to submit RTI requests and receive responses electronically.

“This initiative will provide easy access to government information under the RTI Act, empowering citizens with a faster, more transparent, and cost-efficient mechanism,” Abdullah said.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also urged the authorities to publicize the initiative widely across Jammu & Kashmir to ensure that citizens are aware of the portal’s benefits. He emphasized the importance of educating the public about this valuable resource to promote greater engagement and accountability.

Portal Features And Functionalities

Developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), J&K, the portal marks a shift from manual RTI applications. Secretary of the General Administration Department (GAD), M. Raju, provided a detailed presentation on the portal’s key features.

He highlighted its accessibility, convenience, and efficiency in processing RTI requests. Raju also emphasized how the portal’s streamlined workflow and user-friendly interface would simplify the RTI application process.

A notable feature of the portal is the issuance of a registration number to applicants via SMS and email, allowing them to easily track their applications. This feature ensures greater transparency and accessibility for citizens.

Comprehensive Integration For Greater Coverage

The portal integrates 61 government departments, 272 nodal officers/public authorities, 720 First Appellate Authorities (FAAs), and 3,419 Central Public Information Officers (CPIOs). This extensive integration ensures comprehensive coverage, allowing citizens to stay informed about government activities.
