On the occasion of World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in a symbolic plantation drive by planting a sapling at Mahavir Jayanti Park in New Delhi.
The act marked the launch of ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Par 2.0’- an initiative that blends environmental commitment with a tribute to motherhood and the motherland.
PM Modi’s sapling plantation echoes the central message of this year’s World Environment Day- urging citizens to deepen their resolve in protecting the environment.
In a heartfelt message on X, he wrote, “Today, on #WorldEnvironmentDay, we strengthened the #EkPedMaaKeNaam initiative with a special tree plantation drive. I planted a sapling at the Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in Delhi. This is also a part of our effort to reforest the Aravalli range – the Aravalli Green Wall project.”

Honouring Mothers & Mother Earth
The essence of ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ lies in its emotional and environmental symbolism—planting a tree in the name of one’s mother.
Trees, like mothers, nurture and protect life. The campaign emphasises this parallel to inspire citizens to contribute to both ecological balance and familial honour.
Launched by PM Modi on the same day last year with the planting of a Peepal tree at Buddha Jayanti Park, the campaign has gained widespread public support.
Now in its second edition, the 2.0 drive further aims to plant 10 crore trees across the country between 5 June and 30 September 2025.
Celebrating the campaign’s first anniversary, PM Modi commended India’s progress in enhancing its forest cover.
He also applauded the proactive role of local communities in championing green causes, calling their involvement ‘commendable’.
The initiative forms part of India’s broader vision of sustainable development.
With active public participation and governmental support, tree plantation drives like ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ serve as tangible steps toward climate resilience and ecological harmony.
By linking environmental conservation with personal sentiment, PM Modi’s message carries a powerful appeal.
His call to action on World Environment Day highlights India’s commitment to sustainable growth and sets the tone for a future where citizens take ownership of their ecological responsibilities—one tree, one mother, and one planet at a time.
