
PM Narendra Modi on Thursday flagged off 200 electric buses in the national capital, reaffirming the Centre and Delhi Government’s joint commitment to building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable city.
The event coincided with World Environment Day, underlining the government’s focus on eco-friendly mobility solutions.
PM Modi shared the moment on the social media platform X, posting photos of the flag-off and writing, “Building a clean and green Delhi.”
PM Modi Backs Delhi’s Green Mobility Drive
Flanked by Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Prime Minister Modi launched the new fleet as part of the Delhi Government’s sustainable urban mobility push.
In his social media post, PM Modi said, “Flagged off Electric Buses under an initiative of the Delhi Government aimed at boosting sustainable development and clean urban mobility. Additionally, this will also improve ‘Ease of Living’ for the people of Delhi.”

The rollout of 200 new electric buses follows the formation of a new BJP-led state government in Delhi under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
Her administration has prioritised tackling air pollution and advancing towards complete electrification of the public transportation system.
PM Modi Plants Sapling; Urges Environmental Action
Earlier in the day, PM Modi planted a Sindoor sapling at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, as part of World Environment Day activities.
In a message to the nation, he urged citizens to step up their efforts in protecting the environment.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Expands Electric Bus Fleet
Last month, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off over 400 electric buses under the Delhi Electric Vehicle Initiative (DEVI), reinforcing the city’s goal of building a sustainable transport network.
Speaking at Thursday’s event, she emphasised the importance of electric mobility in the ‘triple engine government’s agenda.
She announced that more than 2,000 electric buses would join Delhi’s fleet by the end of 2025, dramatically scaling up the capital’s eco-friendly transport options.
