The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is introducing a Roadways Porter service to assist devotees attending the Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj. This initiative aims to provide a seamless travel experience for the anticipated 41 crore visitors, many of whom will arrive by roadways buses.
The service focuses on managing large crowds and easing travel for devotees. Porters will help passengers with luggage and guide them on transportation options to reach the Mahakumbh site.
Special Training for Efficient Porter Services
MK Trivedi, Regional Manager of Uttar Pradesh Roadways in Prayagraj, confirmed that porters will undergo specialized training. They will assist passengers and share essential travel information. The porters will wear blue uniforms with brass ID badges for easy identification.
To ensure smooth operations, the porters will work in two shifts of eight hours each. Their credentials, including Aadhaar and criminal records, are being verified. Currently, 16 porters are undergoing training at the Civil Lines Roadways bus station, which handles 118 buses and 1.5 lakh passengers daily.
Focus on Elderly and Differently-Abled Travelers
The service will prioritize senior citizens and differently-abled individuals. Banwari Lal, one of the porters, stated that they aim to treat all devotees as guests, especially the elderly and Divyangjans.
A clear rate list for the porter services will be displayed at bus stations to ensure transparency. This initiative highlights the government’s commitment to making the Mahakumbh a hassle-free experience for all attendees.
