SC Agrees To Hear Petition Seeking CBI Probe Into Post-Election Violence In West Bengal

The petition seeks a CBI investigation into the violence and demands that the state government provide a status report on the FIRs filed and actions taken

Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a petition demanding a CBI inquiry into the violent incidents that occurred after the West Bengal assembly elections. The petition was filed by BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia in 2018, following the killing of BJP worker Dulal Kumar.

Allegations Against TMC Workers

Bhatia’s petition accuses Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers of engaging in violence, including murder and rape, targeting those who voted against TMC. The case mentions the murder of Abhijit Sarkar, who posted a video on Facebook before his death, detailing the attack on his house and NGO by TMC members.

Demand for CBI Investigation

The petition seeks a CBI investigation into the violence and demands that the state government provide a status report on the FIRs filed and actions taken. A bench of Justices Suryakant and Ujjwal Bhuiyan will hear the case. Bhatia argued that the petition was delayed due to the Sabarimala temple case.
