On Thursday, the world’s top court ordered Israel to ensure urgent humanitarian assistance in Gaza without delay, stating that famine has set in.

The Hague-based court stated, “Israel shall… take all necessary and effective measures to ensure, without delay… the unhindered provision… of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance in Gaza”.

“Palestinians in Gaza are no longer facing only a risk of famine, but… famine is setting in”, the International Court of Justice added.

The war began on October 7, when Hamas operatives attacked Israel from Gaza, killing around 1,160 people, the majority of whom were civilians.

The Hamas operatives also kidnapped approximately 250 hostages, of which Israel estimates 130 remain in Gaza, including 34 who are thought dead.

According to the health ministry in Hamas-controlled Gaza, Israel’s retaliatory attack has killed at least 32,552 individuals, mostly women and children.

South Africa has accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, which Israel denies.
