On Tuesday, Wang Yi has been named China’s next foreign minister. Qin Gang, the ‘missing’ foreign minister has been removed from office after not being seen in the public eye for a month.

China’s top legislature voted on Tuesday to appoint Wang Yi as foreign minister.

Notably, Gang’s whereabouts remain unknown, despite the fact that Wang Yi has taken over as Foreign Minister.

On June 25, Qin Gang had a meeting with visiting Russian, Sri Lankan, and Vietnamese officials. He has not been seen in public since. His ministry then stated that he was unable to work due to unspecified health issues.

Qin Gang is regarded as a close aide to Chinese President Xi Jinping. The 57-year-old was last seen in public for eight days during the Lunar New Year Holiday.

Qin Gang is still missing about a month later, and China has said nothing about it. On the Chinese social networking site Weibo, the conversation concerning his absence appears to have been suppressed. A search on the platform for “Where is Qin Gang?” yielded the message “no result”.
