To avert a government shutdown, the continuing resolution must be passed by both houses of Congress.
Last weekend, US senators announced that they had reached an agreement on fiscal year 2024 funding levels, establishing a topline government spending limit of approximately $1.6 trillion.
The pact, unveiled by Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson and Democratic leaders in Congress, includes an increase in Pentagon spending to $886 billion and $773 billion in non-defence discretionary budget.
