On Thursday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for a halt to violence along the border between Lebanon and Israel, warning of the possibility of a wider confrontation.
While touring the northern border area after eight months of the war with Hamas that has destroyed Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday that Israel was prepared for a very intense operation on the frontier.
Daily artillery engagements between Hezbollah and Israel have increased in recent days as Israel waged war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Iran supports both groups, and they are mutual allies.
Referring to Israel and Lebanon’s demarcation line, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric stated, “As the exchanges of fire across the Blue Line continue, the Secretary-General renews his calls to the parties to urgently cease-fire”.
Dujarric went on to say, “These exchanges of fire could trigger a broader conflict with devastating consequences for the region”.
