US President Joe Biden opted out of the presidential race and endorsed his deputy Kamala Harris, leading Republican rival Donald Trump’s campaign to claim it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to defeat not just one Democrat nominee for president, but two in the same year.
The Trump campaign took credit for Biden’s decision to drop out of the race and asserted that the ‘War on Democracy’ would be stopped by the man who took a bullet for democracy.
