A guy has described his scary encounter with a shark on a Spanish beach.
On August 17, a blue shark attacked the man while he was swimming on Rabdells Beach, which is located in the Oliva municipality, south of Valencia on Spain’s eastern coast. The man was swimming at Oliva’s Aigua Blanca beach when he observed a shadow hovering nearby.
A blue shark rushed out and attacked him, sinking its fangs into his foot.
According to local media, the shark clashed with the man at Rabdells Beach and bit his foot, causing a section of the sea to turn red.
“I didn’t have time to get scared”, he explained.
“Noticing that blood was coming out of me, I went into the sea so as not to alarm everyone”, he added.
Experts believe the shark become disoriented while navigating the coastal area before biting the man’s foot.
According to Jaime Penades, a marine biologist, these species don’t want anything from us; they are looking for fish, not people. This is the first shark attack in Valencia since 2016 with the previous attack being in 1993.
The swimmer eventually got out of the water and was brought to the hospital for treatment. Due to the seriousness of the injury, Medics referred the man to the Oliva Health Centre, where he was treated and given a tetanus shot.
Following the incident, the Oliva Town Council closed the beaches of Rabdells, Aigua Blanca, and Aigua Mota as a precautionary measure due to the presence of the blue shark in the ocean.
The following day, however, they were reopened once the Guardia Civil was certain that there was no longer a threat from any animal in the water.
Notably, the species has been spotted multiple times in Spain throughout the course of the summer, terrifying swimmers.
