The 2025 Bihar Assembly election trends have begun to settle, and the picture is becoming increasingly clear: the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is heading for a sweeping victory.
By 1 PM, trends showed the NDA leading on 190 to 199 seats out of 243, while the INDIA bloc (Mahagathbandhan) struggled to even cross the 50-seat mark.
The numbers strongly resemble the political wave of 2010, when Nitish Kumar and the BJP crushed the opposition with a historic mandate.
A Flashback to 2010
The 2010 election marked a defining moment in Bihar’s political landscape. At that time, Lalu Prasad Yadav was fully active, controlling the RJD with his trademark charisma.
Tejashwi Yadav was only beginning to understand the mechanics of politics. In 2025, the picture has changed dramatically. Lalu Yadav has stepped away from active politics because of age and health, leaving Tejashwi entirely in charge of the party and its campaign.
However, despite carrying the full responsibility of the campaign, Tejashwi has failed to meet expectations. The results have unfolded sharply against the Mahagathbandhan’s hopes.
How the Seats Were Split in 2010
In 2010, the seat distribution reflected intense competition. The JD(U) contested 141 seats, while the BJP fought on 102.
The RJD fielded candidates in 168 seats, and the LJP contested 75.
The Congress fought alone on all 243 seats. The NDA then delivered a massive victory: 206 seats in total, with JD(U) winning 115 and BJP securing 91. The opposition combined managed only 25 seats.
A Similar Atmosphere in 2025
The current election environment appears uncannily similar. The NDA’s sweeping lead has once again pushed the opposition into introspection.
Back in 2010, JD(U) had gained 27 seats compared to 2005, and BJP had gained 36. The RJD saw a 4.36% decline in its vote share. A parallel trend seems to be unfolding now.
The NDA’s strategic coordination and Nitish Kumar’s experience are weighing heavily against the opposition.
The ruling alliance has successfully merged organisational strength, governance narrative, and a well-targeted voter outreach, leaving the Mahagathbandhan struggling to keep pace.
If current trends continue, the NDA is set to deliver its strongest mandate in over a decade—reaffirming control and reshaping Bihar’s political course once again.
