Union Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar addressed the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Tokyo on Monday, marking a significant moment in the ongoing diplomatic collaboration between India, Australia, Japan, and the US.
The meeting, attended by counterparts and dignitaries from these nations, focused on bolstering cooperation across economic, security, and humanitarian fronts in the Indo-Pacific region.

In his opening address, Jaishankar highlighted the importance of deepening the Quad’s collective efforts to address regional and global challenges.
“There is much to talk about, agree on, and plan ahead,” he stated, underscoring the need for a united approach in navigating current global dynamics.
Jaishankar acknowledged the complexities of the present global environment, noting, “These are not easy times. A major challenge is to ensure global economic growth while also mitigating risks.”
He emphasized the critical importance of resilient supply chains and transparent digital partnerships in fostering economic stability.
Reflecting on technological progress, the External Affairs Minister described the current phase as a period of re-globalisation, stressing that only through collective action can international systems be safeguarded against disruptions, whether they are man-made or natural.
“As political democracies, pluralistic societies, and market economies, we have significant additional responsibilities,” he added.
Meanwhile, Jaishankar also called for collaborative efforts to uphold a rule-based order in the region.
“There is a key question of upholding a rules-based order. It is only our collaboration that can ensure the Indo-Pacific remains free, open, stable, secure, and prosperous,” he asserted.
This meeting, the eighth of its kind, follows earlier Quad summits, including the ministers’ gathering in Hiroshima and a subsequent session in New York.
