On Monday, following a Russian missile attack on television infrastructure, a 240-meter television tower in Kharkiv, Ukraine, cracked in two and collapsed.
The broadcasting signal was cut in Ukraine’s second-largest city, which has been bombarded with Russian missiles and drone attacks in recent weeks.
Oleh Syniehubov, the governor, remarked, “At the moment there are interruptions to the digital television signal”.
“There were no casualties because workers were in shelters”, Syniehubov continued.
The photos from the site showed the tower’s main mast coming off and falling as a plume of smoke soared into the sky.
The footage does not show what hit the mast, but Kharkiv prosecutors believe Russia deployed a cruise Kh-59 missile in the strike.
Russia originally targeted Kharkiv’s broadcast tower numerous times in early March 2022, shortly after launching its full-scale invasion. The signal was interrupted at the moment.
Moscow has recently increased its attacks, while Ukraine is experiencing a shortage of air defence capabilities. Kharkiv and the surrounding region have seen the most intense strikes.
