Russia announced on Friday that it has transported 25 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Egypt for distribution to the Gaza Strip, which has been under near-total isolation and shelling.
Since October 9, when Israel imposed a total siege on the Palestinian enclave, only very limited quantities of essential human necessities such as water, food, and medicine have been permitted into Gaza.
Over the last month, some 500 aid trucks have been allowed into the territory from Egypt, which was the daily average prior to the war.
On social media, the emergency services of Russia stated, “A special aircraft of the Russian Emergencies Ministry delivered 25 tonnes of humanitarian aid to the Arab Republic of Egypt”.
It released pictures of workers putting supplies aboard an Il-76 aircraft at an airport in Kazan, in central Russia. The cargo was said to include clothing, portable stoves, food, and sanitary.
“The humanitarian cargo has already been handed over to representatives of the Egyptian Red Crescent Society”, it continued.
“Further Russian aid will be sent to the residents of the Gaza Strip”, it added.
According to the rescue service, this is at least the fifth aid cargo from Russia to Gaza.
