PM Modi speaks on Russia-Ukraine war
Prime minister Narendra Modi said India is ready to contribute to any peace process while addressing the joint press meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Saturday 25 February 2023.
Talking about the development in Ukraine, PM Modi said India has been emphasizing resolving the conflict through diplomacy and through diplomacy and dialogue.
“Since the beginning of developments in Ukraine, India has laid emphasis on resolving this dispute through dialogue and diplomacy. India is ready to contribute to any peace process. Security and defense cooperation can become an important pillar of our strategic partnership,” PM Modi said.
The remarks by the Prime Minister came a day after India decided to abstain from another resolution moved in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) which demanded the immediate, complete, and unconditional withdrawal of all of its military forces from the territory of Ukraine and called for a cessation of hostilities.
India’s representative to United Nations Ruchira Kamboj reiterated PM Modi’s statement “this is not an era of war”. She said, “We have consistently advocated that no solution can ever arrive at the cost of human lives. In this context, our Prime Minister’s statement that this cannot be an era of war bears reiteration. Escalation of hostilities and violence is in no one’s interest, instead, an urgent return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy is the way forward”.
The prime minister said the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine conflict has been felt by the entire world and developing countries are especially reeling under it.
