Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 123rd edition of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, hailed the widespread and enthusiastic celebration of the International Day of Yoga 2025.
He described the occasion as a global expression of peace, stability, and spiritual balance, highlighting how deeply Yoga has now become rooted in daily life, both in India and across the world.
“All of you must still be feeling the energy of Yoga and remembering the grand celebrations of 21st June,” he began. “Over the past ten years, this tradition has only grown more magnificent, as millions have made Yoga part of their daily lives.”
The Prime Minister reflected on several memorable highlights from this year’s celebrations.
In Visakhapatnam, an impressive three lakh people gathered on the beaches to perform Yoga.
Even more remarkable was the participation of over 2,000 tribal students, who collectively performed 108 Surya Namaskars over a span of 108 minutes.
He also praised the inclusive efforts seen nationwide, such as the participation of more than 3,000 specially-abled individuals in Telangana, and the unique Yoga sessions held along the banks of the Yamuna River, which also served to promote the clean Yamuna mission.
Yoga in challenging terrains & record-breaking feats
PM Modi applauded the symbolic performances of Yoga in extraordinary locations.
These included Yoga sessions atop the snow-covered Himalayan peaks by ITBP jawans, and exercises held on the Chenab Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir — the world’s highest railway bridge.
In Gujarat, the people of Vadnagar created history as 2,121 individuals simultaneously performed Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose), setting a new record for collective participation.
The Prime Minister highlighted the global nature of the observance, with large-scale Yoga events taking place in cities like New York, London, Paris, and Tokyo.
“Every image of Yoga Day from across the globe conveyed a profound message of peace, stability, and harmony,” he said.
This year’s theme, Yoga For One Earth, One Health, echoed the ancient Indian ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — the world is one family.
PM Modi expressed confidence that the scale and spirit of the 2025 celebrations would inspire even more people worldwide to embrace Yoga.
“The grandeur of this year’s IDY will encourage more and more people to incorporate Yoga into their lives,” he concluded.
