PM Modi with President Cyril Ramaphosa
On Day 2 of the 15th BRICS Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend a bilateral meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on August 23. Later that day, the prime minister will also attend open and closed plenary sessions in Johannesburg.
Following the plenaries, President Cyril Ramaphosa will host a cultural performance and a banquet meal. The BRICS Business Forum Leaders’ Dialogue took place on the first day of the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg.
In his talk to the BRICS Business Forum Leaders’ Dialogue, Prime Minister Modi stated that India will soon be a $5 trillion economy and will be the world’s development engine in the coming years.
“Though the global economy is in a slump, India has emerged as the fastest-growing major economy”, Modi remarked.
PM Modi’s unique message to the dialogue was that mutual trust and transparency can make a significant difference, particularly in the Global South.
Meanwhile, Ramaphosa stated that BRICS countries have an opportunity to contribute to and participate in Africa’s growth story because the country has an urbanized population and can supply a reliable workforce in the future.
“Africa has a young digitally connecting and urbanizing population. A population that provides a stable workforce for companies in the future. The investment in skills… continues to grow”, President Ramaphosa stated.
The event was attended by Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, China’s President Xi Jinping, and Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
