Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented a replica of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, alongside holy water from the Saryu river and the Maha Kumbh held in Prayagraj, during a dinner hosted by Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
The gifts underline the strong cultural and spiritual bonds between India and the Caribbean nation.
Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi said, “At the dinner hosted by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, I presented a replica of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and holy water from the Saryu river as well as from the Mahakumbh held in Prayagraj. They symbolise the deep cultural and spiritual bonds between India and Trinidad & Tobago.”
He also highlighted the cultural significance of the dinner setting, noting that food was served on a Sohari leaf — a tradition cherished by people of Indian origin in Trinidad and Tobago, especially during festivals and special occasions.
The Prime Minister’s visit showcased the vibrant cultural connection between India and Trinidad and Tobago.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi shared his joy at witnessing a Bhojpuri Chautaal performance in Port of Spain, underlining the notable cultural ties between the Caribbean country and eastern Indian states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Upon arrival, PM Modi received a warm ceremonial welcome marked by traditional music, vibrant dances, and festive drums.
The performances reflected a rich fusion of local Caribbean and Indian cultures, symbolising the harmonious relationship between the two nations.
During the dinner, PM Modi also met Rana Mohip, who had famously sung ‘Vaishnava Jana To’ during India’s 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi, acknowledging his dedication to promoting Indian music and culture.
This visit to Trinidad and Tobago marks PM Modi’s second trip to the Caribbean within eight months, following his November 2024 visit to Guyana.
The visits highlight India’s growing partnership with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the strategic importance India places on strengthening ties with Caribbean nations.
PM Modi’s visit and the exchange of gifts and cultural celebrations will further deepen relations between India and Trinidad and Tobago.
The trip strengthens historic cultural links while opening new avenues for cooperation in trade, culture, and diplomacy between India and the Caribbean region.
