Palestine-Israel Conflict: Israel Military Raids on Jenin Refugee Camp, 3 Killed, 38 Injured

Three Palestinians were killed and at least 38 others were injured in an Israeli military raided the Jenin refugee camp.

According to Wafa news agency, the raid started early on Monday with Israeli soldiers storming the camp and opening fire with live bullets, stun grenades and poisonous gas.

The three people who have been killed in the attack were identified as Khaled Darwish, 21, Qassam Sariya, 19, and Ahmed Saqr, 15,by the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

According to the Official Palestinian News Agency of Wafa, 12 of the 38 injured people—including two with critical injuries—have been transported to the Jenin Governmental Hospital. According to the Wafa news agency, the remaining 16 victims, including three others with major chest and neck injuries, were sent to Ibn Sina Specialised Hospital.

According to the Israeli military, the early-morning raid on Jenin in the occupied West Bank was to arrest two palestinians suspects.

A “massive exchange of fire” started after Israeli soldiers came under fire. Israel’s finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, demanded that “a large-scale operation across the [occupied] West Bank” to be carried out, saying that “the time had come” to start this operation.

He added: “I will request an emergency meeting of the Security and Political Security Council.”

According to the Jenin Battalion of the Al-Quds Brigades of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), they used high-level explosives for the first time on Monday. According to the Brigades, during the operation, they launched these bombs against Israeli forces.

Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem has stressed that “the Palestinian resistance in the occupied West Bank remains solid and strong”.

“The Israeli occupation is far from winning the battle against the resistance in Jenin,” he said in a press statement by the group ruling the Gaza Strip since 2007.

“Jenin proves today once again that it is invincible and present in the resistance, and that the Israeli occupation is still surprised every time it tries to end the resistance,” said Qassem.

Egypt condemned the Israeli military raid on the occupied West Bank city of Jenin. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “Egypt completely rejects this aggression, which contradicts all provisions of international law legitimacy,” reported Wafa News Agency.
