Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan along with his wife, Bushra Bibi
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has launched a fresh investigation into the Toshakhana case, summoning Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan along with his wife, Bushra Bibi, as reported by ARY News. NAB Rawalpindi has dispatched a letter to the Deputy Superintendent of Adiala Jail, requesting their presence for interrogation. The Accountability Court (AC) previously handed down a sentence of 14 years each to Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana case on January 31. AC Judge Muhammad Bashir pronounced the verdict, also disqualifying the couple from holding public office for a decade and imposing a fine of PKR 787 million.
Earlier, Imran Khan and his Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi were sentenced to 10 years in prison under the Official Secrets Act in connection with the cypher case, per ARY News. Moreover, on February 4, they received a seven-year jail term each in a case concerning their marriage during Bushra Bibi’s Iddat period, as reported by Dawn.
However, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended the 14-year jail sentence of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana case on April 1. Following this development, numerous PTI leaders rallied behind Imran Khan, denying the allegations against him. Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar dismissed the former PM’s accusations against senior military leaders in the Toshakhana case as “false, fabricated, and baseless,” according to Dawn.
Furthermore, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur declared that PTI would overthrow the PML-N-led federal government upon the instruction of Imran Khan, as per ARY News. Similarly, PTI leader Omar Ayub Khan reiterated his loyalty to the party and its founder, Imran Khan, regardless of the circumstances, reported Dunya News.
Meanwhile, protests demanding Imran Khan’s release erupted across Pakistan. PTI organized the ‘Train March’ in Sukkur on April 29, with party leaders pledging to continue the struggle for Imran Khan’s release and the restoration of PTI’s “stolen mandate,” according to Dawn. Thousands of PTI supporters boarded the Awam Express from various cities, while others gathered at stations along the route to join the march. Caravans and rallies convened in the morning, with participants boarding the train from Landhi station, Dawn reported.
