At least 24 people were killed when a section of a motorway collapsed in South China’s Guangdong Province early on Wednesday morning.
According to the provincial authorities in Meizhou, another 30 individuals are being treated in hospitals, with no one in critical condition.
Local authorities stated that the collapse forced 20 automobiles to plunge.
The incident occurred around 2:10 a.m. on the Meizhou-Dabu Expressway in Meizhou.
“The collapsed section is 17.9 metres long and covers an area of 184.3 square metres”, the officials continued.
Aerial photographs reveal that one side of the expressway caved in, allowing vehicles to slide down a slope.
“No large vehicles or hazardous chemicals-transporting vehicles were involved in the accident”, the officials added.
The Ministry of Emergency Management has dispatched a working group to the scene to coordinate rescue efforts.
