On Wednesday, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said his first visit to Russia in nearly four years was a clear demonstration of the strategic importance of the two countries’ relations.

Kim Jong Un stated that his travel to the Russian Federation is a clear manifestation of the WPK and the DPRK government’s stance on the strategic importance of DPRK-Russia relations.

The DPRK refers to North Korea’s official name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, while the WPK refers to the Workers’ Party of Korea, the country’s sole ruling party.

Kim’s travel to Russia is his first foreign visit since the international public health disaster caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kim landed in Russia’s border town of Khasan early Tuesday morning and was received at the train station by senior authorities from Moscow and surrounding territories. His visit aims to raise DPRK-Russia friendship and cooperation to a new higher level.
