North Korea To Deport US Soldier Who Crossed Border Illegally

It made no mention of where or when the king will be released

North Korea has chosen to expel US soldier Travis King, who was caught after crossing the border from the South in July.

Following the completion of its inquiry, the relevant organ of the DPRK decided to expel Travis King, a soldier of the US Army who illegally intruded into the territory of the DPRK, under the law of the Republic, according to KCNA.

It made no mention of where or when the king will be released.

North Korea alleges King defected to avoid maltreatment and racial prejudice in the US Army.

According to the report, Travis King has confessed that he illegally intruded into the DPRK territory because he was disillusioned with the uneven US society and harbored ill feelings against inhuman maltreatment and racial discrimination within the US army.

Travis King crossed the border on July 18, 2023, after taking a tour of the Demilitarised Zone between the two Koreas.

After a drunken bar brawl, an incident with police, and a stint in a South Korean jail, the soldier was scheduled to return to the United States to face disciplinary repercussions.

Instead, he left the airport, went on a border tour, and ran across it.

The border crossing by King occurred at a time when ties between the two Koreas were at an all-time low, with negotiations stalled and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un pressing for accelerated weapons development, including tactical nuclear bombs.
