The Maldives government takes action against ministers who passed derogatory remarks on Indian PM Modi. According to the Atoll Times, the government has suspended three Maldivian ministers—Mariyam Shiuna, Malsha, and Hassan Zihan—for making derogatory comments about the Indian Prime Minister, following his visit to Lakshadweep. The government spokesperson, Ibrahim Khaleel, stated that all officials responsible for these comments have been immediately suspended.

One of the deputy ministers, Hassan Zihan, labelled the news as “Fake” in response to a local media tweet on a microblogging platform.

Mariyam Shiuna, whose post featuring pictures of PM Modi was later deleted, referred to him as a ‘clown’ and a ‘puppet of Israel.’ Consequently, there have been claims on social media that over 8,000 hotel bookings and 2,500 flight tickets were cancelled in retaliation.

Former President Mohamed Nasheed found the remarks by the Maldivian ministers appalling and urged President Mohamed Muizzu’s government to distance itself from these comments. Additionally, Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb strongly condemned the derogatory and racist comments made by some Maldivian ministers towards Prime Minister Modi.

Meanwhile, Narendra Modi reached Lakshadweep on December 2. His visit involved chairing a review meeting on various island-related aspects and laying the foundation stone for projects worth Rs 1,150 crore.
