North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called for “overwhelming” war readiness to deal with US-led confrontational moves. According to state media, Kim Jong would launch three more military spy satellites, build more nuclear weapons, and introduce modern unmanned combat equipment in 2024.
Weapon tests to be carried out in Korea
Kim’s remarks, which came at a crucial Workers’ Party conference to determine state objectives for the upcoming year, imply that he will carry out further weapon tests to add to his arsenal in the midst of long-dormant diplomatic relations with the US. According to observers, should negotiations begin, Kim would eventually like to utilize his enhanced nuclear capabilities to extract more concessions from the outside world.
According to the official Korean Central News Agency, Kim stated during the five-day conference that concluded on Saturday that the United States and its allies had been taking unprecedented action against North Korea this year, putting the Korean Peninsula in danger of nuclear war.
“The grave situation requires us to accelerate works to acquire overwhelming war response capabilities and thorough and perfect military readiness to suppress any types of provocations by the enemies at a stroke,” Kim said.

Kim Jong gives thumbs up to building nuclear weapons
In addition to the nation’s first reconnaissance satellite launched in November, Kim announced intentions to launch three more military surveillance satellites the following year. According to KCNA, he also gave the go-ahead for authorities to continue developing new nuclear weapons and advanced unmanned combat vehicles, like drones with weapons and potent EW systems.
In response, South Korea and the US increased its military drills and sent out US strategic weapons, including bombers, aircraft carriers, and nuclear-armed submarines. North Korea refers to the actions as invasion drills led by the US.
The spy agency in South Korea reported last week that military provocations and cyberattacks are expected to be carried out by North Korea prior to the US presidential election in November and the parliamentary elections in April in South Korea. Prior to the previous legislative elections in South Korea, the National Intelligence Service claimed that North Korea had tested its nuclear and missile systems and flown a drone over their border.
