Israel-Hamas War: In Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, a Palestinian man examines the wreckage of a house after an Israeli strike.
The foreign minister of Jordan stated that Israel might eliminate Hamas by heavily bombarding and invading the Gaza Strip. At the annual IISS Manama Dialogue security meeting in Bahrain, Ayman Safadi expressed doubt by stating, “Israel says it wants to wipe out Hamas.” There are a lot of military personnel around, but I’m not sure how this goal can be accomplished.
Jordan was also forewarned by Ayman Safadi that actions taken will be taken “whatever it takes to stop” such displacement.
“We will never permit it to occur since it would directly jeopardize our national security in addition to being a war crime. “We will stop it by any means necessary,” he declared. Jordan and the West Bank are adjacent. Jordanian officials were alarmed by the Gaza conflict because they believed that Israel may drive out a large number of Palestinians from the West Bank.

“This war is not taking us anywhere but towards more conflict, more suffering and the threat of expanding into regional wars,” Ayman Safadi stated. Since Hamas’ fatal October 7th attack into Israel, Israel has pledged to destroy the organization, but this has created concerns about who would rule the heavily populated enclave in the event that Hamas is vanquished. Since 2007, the gang has controlled the enclave.
After the Israel-Hamas conflict is resolved, only the Palestinian Authority (PA) will be able to govern Gaza, according to EU foreign policy leader Josep Borrell. In the West Bank, the organization supported by the West has some degree of autonomy. “Hamas is no longer able to rule Gaza. Who will rule over Gaza then? “I believe that only the Palestinian Authority is capable of doing that,” he remarked.
Mahmoud Abbas, the president of Palestine, stated that if a comprehensive political settlement could be reached, the PA could be involved in running Gaza. The PA is extremely unpopular among Palestinians, and peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians have been on hold since 2014.

The senior Middle East advisor to US President Joe Biden, meantime, predicted that a spike in humanitarian relief deliveries would follow the freeing of Hamas hostages. According to news agency Reuters, Brett McGurk stated at the Manama conference, “You will see a significant, significant change, now that the hostages are released.”
