A war monitor reported that the Israeli strikes on Syria’s Homs killed five individuals, including three civilians, on Wednesday, with Syria’s defence ministry reporting an undefined number of civilian deaths.
“Five people have been killed including three civilians — a woman, a child, and a man — and seven others were injured in Israeli strikes on a building in the Hamra neighborhood of Homs city”, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights noted.
The monitor went on to say that the identities of the two non-civilian casualties were unknown.
Syria’s defence ministry said, “The Israeli enemy launched air strikes from the direction north of Tripoli (Lebanon) targeting several sites in the city of Homs and its countryside… killing and injuring several civilians”.
Syrian state television showed rescuers sifting through the ruins of what seemed to be a fallen building while carrying someone on a stretcher.
Earlier, Syrian state media reported an Israeli assault on central Syria’s Homs province.
Last week, the US launched strikes on Iran-backed militias in Syria and Iraq, killing dozens in revenge for a deadly attack on American troops in Jordan.
During Syria’s more than a decade civil war, Israel launched hundreds of air strikes, largely targeting Iranian-backed militants and Syrian army sites.
However, such attacks have increased since October 7, when Israel and Hamas began the war.
Since 2011, Syria has been embroiled in a brutal conflict that has killed over half a million people and displaced millions.
