The National Security Council of Israel has encouraged its residents to evacuate Egypt and Jordan as regional tensions over the Gaza war have risen.
In a statement, Israel’s National Security Council stated, “Israel’s National Security Council raises its travel warnings for Egypt (including Sinai) and Jordan to level 4 (high threat): recommendation not to travel to these countries and for those staying there to leave… as soon as possible”.
The letter came only days after Israel recalled its diplomats from Turkey as a precautionary measure in response to an earlier request for its citizens to depart as well.
The evacuation order came following days of protests across the Middle East against Israel’s assault on the Gaza Strip.
Israeli officials claim that at least 1,400 people were killed mostly civilians who were shot, mutilated, or burnt to death, when Hamas surged into Israel from the Gaza Strip, taking more than 200 hostages.
Since then, Israel has sworn to destroy Hamas, and in response, a bombing campaign has destroyed entire city blocks in Gaza, killing 4,137 Palestinians, mostly civilians.
