An all-party Indian parliamentary delegation led by Congress Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor arrived in Washington, DC, on 4 June 2025, as part of a global outreach campaign to underline India’s strong and united stance against Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism.
The delegation reached the US capital late on Tuesday evening and was warmly received by Indian Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra.
Over the next two days, the group is scheduled to meet members of the US Congress, officials from the Donald Trump administration, think tanks, media representatives, and policy experts to discuss ‘Operation Sindoor’ – India’s targeted military response following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack.
The Indian Embassy in Washington confirmed the visit on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating, “An all party delegation led by Dr. @ShashiTharoor arrives in Washington D.C. Over the next two days the delegation will be meeting members of the US Congress and administration, think tanks, media and policymakers to brief them on Operation Sindoor and India’s strong stand against terrorism.”

The delegation comprises nine members, including MPs from various parties: Shambhavi Choudhary (Lok Janshakti Party – Ram Vilas), Sarfaraz Ahmad (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha), GM Harish Balayogi (Telugu Desam Party), Shashank Mani Tripathi, Bhubaneswar Kalita, Tejasvi Surya (Bharatiya Janata Party), Milind Deora (Shiv Sena), and Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
Final Leg Of International Outreach
The US visit marks the final stop in the delegation’s diplomatic tour, which previously covered Guyana, Panama, Colombia, and Brazil.
The campaign aims to highlight India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ and assert its zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism sponsored by Pakistan.
Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora shared the delegation’s arrival on X, tweeting: “Touchdown in Washington, DC. #OperationSindoor.”

Notably, the Indian delegation’s visit coincides with a Pakistani delegation led by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visiting the US.
Despite this, Shashi Tharoor expressed confidence that India’s message would resonate strongly.
Ahead of the visit, Tharoor described the Washington leg as a crucial opportunity to counter misinformation surrounding ‘Operation Sindoor’.
His remarks came amid US President Donald Trump’s ceasefire claims between India and Pakistan, which New Delhi firmly denied.
Indian officials clarified that Pakistan, not India, requested a halt to military action after the Pahalgam attack.
Speaking in Brazil, Tharoor said, “Washington is a particularly interesting case because it is a large country, a superpower with enormous influence in the world, and there are many crosscurrents of information, misinformation, and other narratives circulating. So, we have quite a lot of work to do there.”
He underscored the difficulty of dialogue with nations that facilitate cross-border terrorism and emphasised that dismantling terror infrastructure is a prerequisite for meaningful engagement.
“We are looking for solidarity in our struggle against terrorism. The first thing should be for them to dismantle the infrastructure of terrorism. Stop giving safe haven to killers and murderers, and instead, arrest and prosecute them. We need a different story, but they have not been doing that in Pakistan,” Tharoor said.
The delegation aims to leave Washington with greater international understanding and solidarity to support India’s fight against terrorism.
