Indian students in Kazan are filled with excitement as Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives for the 16th BRICS Summit. PM Modi landed there on Tuesday, receiving a warm welcome upon his arrival at Hotel Korston.
To greet the Prime Minister, Indian students studying in Russia performed a welcome song. Shaurya Pratap, an Indian student from Bihar, expressed his happiness, saying, “We have prepared a song for him and we hope he likes it.”
Talking to a news agency, Surbhi, from Delhi, noted, “I have been here since 2019, and today, we are very excited to sing for PM Modi.” Parul, a final-year medical student, shared her gratitude for the opportunity to welcome the Prime Minister, while Arti Pawar from Maharashtra expressed her joy at his visit.

Mrunmayi from Nagpur added, “All the students are enthusiastic. We are delighted to welcome him.”
In addition, ISKCON volunteers from the Russian and Indian communities were seen chanting “Hare Krishna, Hare Ram” in anticipation of PM Modi’s arrival. Sergoy, an ISKCON volunteer, remarked, “This visit is important for us. We are happy to welcome him.”
A Russian citizen, Alexander, also shared his excitement. “We have made a banner and will sing a song to welcome PM Modi. I just returned from India and came directly to Kazan to see him.”
Ahead of his trip, PM Modi posted on X, stating, “I look forward to extensive discussions on a wide range of subjects at the BRICS Summit.” His visit emphasizes India’s commitment to BRICS as an important platform for global dialogue.
The 16th BRICS Summit is being held under the chairmanship of Russia from October 22-24. During the summit, PM Modi is expected to hold bilateral meetings with leaders from BRICS nations and discuss critical global issues.
This visit marks Modi’s second trip to Russia this year. He previously attended the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit in Moscow in July, where he was awarded Russia’s highest civilian honor, the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle.
BRICS began as a formal grouping in 2006 and has since expanded, most recently adding five new members in 2024: Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The summit provides a valuable opportunity for leaders to assess ongoing initiatives and explore future collaborations.
