India has reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to digital transformation, space sustainability, and inclusive global partnerships at the 11th BRICS Communications Ministers’ Meeting held in Brasilia, Brazil.
Representing India, Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, emphasised the nation’s global leadership in pioneering digital public infrastructure.
He further highlighted the successful implementation of Aadhaar, UPI, and the Digital India mission—models now studied worldwide for their scalability and impact on inclusive, tech-driven governance.
In his address, Pemmasani presented India’s progress across four pillars—Universal and Meaningful Connectivity, Space and Environmental Sustainability, and Digital Ecosystems.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, he noted, India has made remarkable advances in expanding 4G/5G connectivity, laying extensive fibre optic networks, and introducing reforms in satellite communication and digital governance.
During bilateral discussions with Brazilian officials, Pemmasani explored partnerships in advanced technologies, including indigenous 6G development, quantum computing, and satellite communication.
He also acknowledged Brazil’s work on 6 GHz spectrum trials and stressed the need for collaboration in telecom security and cross-border digital ecosystems.
On the sidelines, Pemmasani held discussions with South African delegates, focusing on bridging the digital divide through skills development, UPI-based digital banking, and enhancing public access to digital platforms.
Both sides pledged support to intensify their cooperation at multilateral forums, including the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR).
The Brasilia meet, held under Brazil’s chairmanship, brought together 11 BRICS members—Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, the UAE, Ethiopia, Iran, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia.
Furthermore, the nations reiterated their collective vision for an open, interconnected, innovation-led, and sustainable digital future.
Coinciding with the ministerial meeting, an all-party parliamentary delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor visited Brazil as part of ‘Operation Sindoor’, India’s diplomatic initiative to build international consensus against cross-border terrorism.
Pemmasani lauded the delegation’s work, noting its success in shifting global perspectives and reinforcing India’s zero-tolerance stance on terrorism.
“He (Shashi Tharoor) brings vital experience and credibility on the global stage,” Pemmasani told IANS. “His delegation has effectively articulated India’s position, even influencing a change in Colombia’s approach. This is an example of PM Modi’s innovative diplomacy yielding real-time results.”
The BRICS Communications Ministers’ Meeting concluded with renewed commitment to enhance digital cooperation, ethical use of AI, space sustainability, and equitable access to digital technologies.
Moreover, India’s leadership, marked by practical innovation and diplomatic engagement, continues to shape global dialogue on sustainable digital futures.
