Iran-backed Hezbollah, a Hamas ally, said on Monday that it had launched dozens of Katyusha rockets at an Israeli army headquarters in northern Israel in response to attacks on villages in southern Lebanon.
Since Hamas’s extraordinary October 7 onslaught on Israel sparked the war in Gaza, the Israeli army and Iran-backed Hezbollah have exchanged fire nearly every day.
With tensions between Israel-Iran at an all-time high, the Lebanese Shiite militant group has stepped up its strikes on Israeli military targets across the border.
According to the Hezbollah statement, it shelled the headquarters of the 3rd Infantry Brigade of the 91st Division at Ein Zeitim Base with dozens of Katyusha rockets.
This was in retaliation to southern villages and civilian homes, most recently in Srifa, Odaisseh, and Rab Tlatin.
On Monday, Israel struck three communities.
The Israeli military stated, “Approximately 35 launches were identified crossing from Lebanon into the area of Ein Zeitim in northern Israel with no injuries recorded”.
It went on to say, “Troops struck the sources of the launches”.
Since October 7 at least 376 individuals have been killed in Lebanon, mostly Hezbollah combatants but also 70 civilians.
Israel claims 10 soldiers and eight civilians have been killed on its side of the border.
