After concluding his two-day visit to Ghana, PM Narendra Modi emplaned for Port of Spain on Thursday evening.
Posting on X, he wrote, “Leaving for Trinidad & Tobago. Later this evening, I look forward to attending a community programme in Port of Spain. Tomorrow, will be addressing the Parliament of Trinidad & Tobago. Looking forward to deepening ties with a valued partner in the Caribbean, with whom we share very old cultural linkages.”

First Indian Prime Ministerial visit to T&T since 1999
This marks PM Modi’s first-ever visit to Trinidad and Tobago as Prime Minister, and the first Prime Ministerial-level bilateral visit to the country in over two decades.
T&T is the second stop in his ongoing five-nation tour, which also includes Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia.
High-level talks and historic parliament address
During his stay, PM Modi will hold bilateral meetings with President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, who recently began her second term in office.
He will address a Joint Session of the Trinidad and Tobago Parliament on Friday, reinforcing India’s strong democratic and parliamentary ties with the Caribbean nation.
Strengthening cultural and diaspora bonds
PM Modi’s visit comes at a symbolic time as Trinidad and Tobago marks 180 years since the arrival of Indian immigrants.
“This visit is an opportunity to rejuvenate the special bonds of ancestry and kinship,” said MEA Secretary (South) Neena Malhotra.
With people of Indian origin making up nearly 40–45% of T&T’s population, Prime Minister Modi’s visit will further strengthen cultural, emotional, and people-to-people ties.
Both President Kangaloo and PM Persad-Bissessar, who proudly identify as ‘daughters of India’, share deep-rooted connections to Indian heritage.
The Indian diaspora in Trinidad and Tobago is organising a large community programme during the visit, reflecting their excitement and enthusiasm.
India and T&T are working to expand cooperation in key areas such as pharmaceuticals, digital public infrastructure, renewable energy, disaster resilience, technology, agriculture, education, and sports.
PM Modi is expected to discuss these areas during his bilateral meetings.
