Germany shut down its last three nuclear reactors
Germany shut down its last three nuclear reactors on Saturday, abandoning atomic energy as it tries to transition away from fossil fuels and deal with an energy crisis brought on by the conflict in Ukraine.
Germany stopped its nuclear era early as several Western nations increased their investments in nuclear energy to cut back on emissions.
The RWE energy company said in a statement shortly after midnight that the three reactors had been unplugged from the power grid, calling it “the end of an era.”

In various German cities, anti-nuclear protesters gathered in the streets to mark the shutdown.
